The high-flying Hawks lost their first game of the season to Rodney Eade's in-form Bulldogs, while the Magpies and Freo felt deja vu - Collingwood demolishing yet another opponent at the club's favoured MCG, the Dockers disappointing once more.
On Friday night, Essendon coach Matthew Knights culled the Dons' free-flowing game-style, choosing accountable man-on-man footy which challenged inaccurate Adelaide right to the finish line at AAMI Stadium.
Bombers captain Matthew Lloyd and fellow key forward Scott Lucas - returning from injury for his second game of the season - failed to have an impact, leaving the door ajar for half-forward Adam McPhee - whom played his finest game of the season to date.
Elsewhere, the Lions came out on top over a persevering North Melbourne up at the Gabba, Geelong sizzled back into form over Carlton, the Swans embarrassed Richmond, St. Kilda found form against the Dees and the Dockers failed in the final term for a record-breaking 5th time on the trot.
DALE Thomas starred with another contender for goal-of-the-year, this one including over 5 bounces of the ball over three quarters of the G, and a composed finish once inside 50.
STEVE Johnson gathered a magical 29 possessions and kicked 5 goals (3 behinds) against Carlton.
ADAM Goodes and RYAN O'Keefe teased the Tigers while leading the Swans to a first-half blitz, forcing Richmond to wait only 6 minutes pre half-time before finally putting a major on the scoreboard.
