Pressure on Port |

AFTER unofficially dubbing themselves the best side to ever sit on zero wins and four losses, Port Adelaide has all the work ahead of them to play finals.
Currently lying 12th on the table, the Power have enjoyed just the three victories, all against bottom eight sides – West Coast, Essendon and St Kilda.
With the talent in the squad, a top eight berth is not out of reach, but every week it is becoming more and more a taxing task.
Heading into round ten, Port travel to Subiaco to meet bottom-lying Fremantle, a side they will need to beat to qualify for September action.
Although the Dockers sit with just the one win, their recent performances suggest they are no easy-beats.
A loss to Fremantle would surely see the Power season labeled a failure, as it would be difficult for any side to resurge from a 3 win to 7 loss situation, especially with Geelong in coming weeks.
The pressure is mounting on Port, and perhaps they were too quick to label themselves the best zero and four side ever.
North Melbourne of 1975 have a bigger claim, 0 and 4, and eventual premiership winners.
If it is any consolation for Power fans, they were also sitting on three wins and six losses, after finishing runners-up the season previous.
Will history repeat itself? Unlikely, but the pressure is on Port Adelaide. |
